Delancey Griffin - Speaker

Delancey Paden Griffin (Cherokee Nation) is a first-year Ph.D. student at the University of Georgia studying archaeology. She is a 2021 graduate of Classen School of Advanced Studies in Oklahoma City, where she obtained an International Baccalaureate Diploma and was a class Valedictorian. Delancey attended Columbia University and graduated with honors in May of 2025 with a B.A. in archaeology. Delancey will share her path to becoming an archeologist, which began at the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center in Cortez, CO and included collaborative work with the Picuris Pueblo in New Mexico. She will discuss her experience as a Cherokee archaeologist and the importance of incorporating Indigenous Knowledge into interpretations of archaeological data. Delancey will share why she chose to attend the University of Georgia, and she will talk about her doctoral research project at New Echota, which will focus on the pre-removal Cherokee Nation government at the capital in Georgia. One of Delancey’s passion projects is to develop opportunities for Cherokee communities to participate in collaborative archaeology projects on ancestral lands. Questions and interest from the audience will be greatly appreciated. 

If you have things to show and sell,  you are welcome to do so but this is completely optional.   Small items like Cherokee baskets, jewelry etc.
